Description
Outemu Brown is a tactile mechanical switch for mechanical keyboards. It is a high-quality clone of German Cherry MX Brown switches. The only significant difference between the two (besides the materials) is that the Outemu MX switches are certified for a lifespan of 50 million clicks, while the Cherry MX switches are certified for a lifespan of 100 million clicks.
Brown switches have tactile mechanical that provide noticeable feedback when a key is pressed. Their key feature is the tactile bump you feel midway through the keypress. This allows you to clearly sense when the key has actuated without needing to press all the way down. These switches are often chosen by people who prefer a physical response when typing but don’t want to hear the loud click sound associated with blue switches.
The mechanism of Outemu Brown switches allows for a total key travel distance of 4mm, with the actuation point occurring at around 2mm. The required actuation force is around 55 grams, which is considered moderate among mechanical switches. This balance makes typing both easy and precise, which is ideal for tasks like coding or general typing. Additionally, these switches are built to last, with a lifespan of up to 50 million keystrokes, ensuring durability even with heavy and long-term usage.
Outemu Browns are great for both typists and gamers who value tactile feedback but don’t want the extra noise. Compared to the linear Outemu Red switches, which lack tactile feedback, Browns provide a more distinct sense of actuation, helping to avoid accidental key presses. At the same time, they are quieter than the Outemu Blues, making them a good choice for shared open spaces. The Brown switches sit in the middle ground between linear and clicky, making them a versatile choice for most users.
When compared to other mechanical switches on the market, Outemu Brown switches offer a solid option for those looking for a cost-effective solution without sacrificing quality. While they might not have the same level of name recognition as Cherry or Gateron switches, they deliver a comparable typing experience, making them a popular choice among mechanical keyboard enthusiasts.
The upper part of the switch is made of transparent plastic, which allows illumination to pass through it and makes the switch compatible with RGB keyboards and shine-through keycaps.
